Premier Inn Isle of Wight Sandown (Merrie Gardens) hotel

We frequently stay in Premier Inns... Because we know we can rely on a brilliant bed, clean rooms a perfect base to explore from. This time we upgraded to Premier Plus and enjoyed the extra treats ...a fridge with bottles of still and sparkling water replenished each day . We loved the mini Green & Blacks chocolates each day. Having an iron and board in the room was much appreciated. The lady who serviced our room was efficient and professional. I think her name was Brooke.

Very good hotel. But was absolutely spoilt this morning by the chef. She was having a very bad day and made sure we all knew about it. It's a shame because she spoilt what was to that point an excellent stay. Shame.

Great staff and nice clean rooms. The duvet I had must have been new as it was very plump and thick. I slept really well and did not hear any noise. I was here for 3 nights due to work and would request to return if in the area again.

I stayed at this Premier Inn for three nights between 26–29 December, in one of the Premier Plus rooms on the first floor, above the restaurant in the “quieter” part of the hotel. I’ve stayed here many times over the years as it’s the closest hotel to my family on the island, and I’ve never really had a bad stay. This was my first time trying a Premier Plus room, mainly for the better WiFi — which you do need here, because mobile signal is basically non‑existent. Other than that, the room isn’t hugely different from the standard ones, though the mini fridge is handy if you want proper milk for tea. I had the all‑you‑can‑eat breakfast each morning. It was fine — nothing special, but it did the job. I wouldn’t bother with dinner here though. The evening menu is extremely limited (check the website and you’ll see). You’re much better off walking across the road to the pub, which has a far better choice. One thing to note: because the Premier Plus rooms sit above the restaurant, you wake up to the smell of cooked breakfast. Some people might like that. I didn’t — it hung around for most of the morning and gave me a headache, so worth keeping in mind when booking. Also, the windows don’t open, so you’re having to rely on the air conditioning unit, which is not ideal if you’re located above the restaurant and all you can smell and breath is the greasy breakfast! I actually came down with a cold on my third night, which I think is down to lack of clean ventilation… Staff were very pleasant throughout my stay — credit to the team.

Visiting the Isle for the first time for work. I was apprehensive and stressed out but Waqar at the front desk was extremely helpful and quickly found solutions that made my stay completely stress-free. He went above and beyond to ensure my experience of the hotel as well as the isle was positive and cant thank him enough. Why cant all customer service be like this experience. The hotel was clean, well maintained and I appreciated the service I received. 5 stars. Thank you Waqar

Excellent service, hard working staff, friendly, nice and clean with good A/C, free parking for guests, supermarkets closeby. Short drive to the beaches. Overall a wonderfully place to stay. Standard Premier inn breakfast with payment.

Stayed here for 2 nights at the end of September. All staff I came into contact with were lovely, especially the man at reception on the night shift. Didn’t catch his name. Really helpful with extra towels and everything I needed. Room was clean, didn’t hear much noise from the corridors and slept well. Didn’t have the breakfast option as I don’t like greasy food and all I could smell in reception was grease. So that put me off a bit but other than that an all round great stay! Would recommend! Stayed here at the end of July with my family. The location was lovely and quiet with a Pub and KFC across the road. The rooms were immaculate, the bed was very comfortable and I had one of the best sleeps I've ever had whilst staying in a hotel. The staff were super friendly and to be commended on their service from house keeping, to the front desk and in the breakfast room. Breakfast offered a wide selection for all and everyone was satisfied. I would definitely stay here again.
